How to manage Product Categories in Perno Store

A step by step guide to managing product categories in your Perno Store.

Product categories help organize products in Perno Store and make it easier for customers to browse the store catalog. You can create main categories and subcategories, define their order, add translations and attributes, and decide which categories should appear on the store’s home page.

Before managing categories, make sure that the correct Perno Store context is selected in the context switcher at the top of the page. Categories are managed separately for each store.

Open the Categories module

  1. In the main navigation menu, expand Products.

  2. Select Categories.

  3. The Categories page displays the category tree for the currently selected store.

At the top of the page, you can see:

  • Store Context – the store whose categories you are currently managing.

  • Visible Nodes – the total number of root categories and subcategories in the category tree.

  • Featured Categories – opens the section for managing categories highlighted in the store.

  • Add Category – creates a new top-level category.

The Category Tree section shows the current category structure. The Depth value indicates the category’s position in the hierarchy. For example, Level 1 represents a top-level category.

Add a new category

  1. Click Add Category.

  1. Complete the available fields:

  • Category Name – enter the name displayed to customers.

  • Slug – enter the URL-friendly identifier for the category. It should normally contain lowercase letters and hyphens instead of spaces.

  • Category Lead – optionally add a short introductory description of the category.

  • Parent Category – select an existing category if the new category should be created as a subcategory. Leave No parent (root category) selected to create a top-level category.

  • Show on Home Page – select this option if the category should appear in the home page navigation and category sections.

  • Category Icon – optionally upload an icon representing the category.

  1. Review the selected store and category creation mode in the Context panel.

  2. Click Create Category to save the category.

To leave the form without creating a category, click Cancel or Back to Categories.

Keep the category structure clear and relatively shallow. Category and subcategory names should reflect the way customers naturally search for products in the store.

Manage an existing category

In the Category Tree, click the three-dot menu next to a category. Depending on its position in the tree, the following actions are available:

  • Move Up – moves the category higher in the displayed order.

  • Move Down – moves the category lower in the displayed order.

  • Edit – opens the category details for editing.

  • Attributes – manages attributes associated with the category.

  • Translations – manages category content in other languages.

  • Add Subcategory – creates a new category under the selected parent category.

  • Delete – removes the category.

Before deleting a category, make sure that it is no longer needed and check whether it contains subcategories or is used by products. Deletion may require additional confirmation.
